Whether you are downloading over a corporate network, routing transfers through a local SOCKS5 privacy tunnel (127.0.0.1:1080), or organizing downloads from different websites into dedicated folders, NGS Download Manager provides a unified Proxy & Website Rules workspace built directly into its native Light & Dark UI.

1. How to Configure SOCKS5 or HTTP Proxy in NGS Download Manager

Setting up an encrypted proxy in NGS Download Manager takes less than 30 seconds and applies to both direct file transfers and 4K/8K media streams:

  1. Open NGS Download Manager and click Proxy & Rules in the left WORKSPACE sidebar.
  2. Check the box labeled "Use this proxy for file and media downloads".
  3. Select your protocol under Type (choose SOCKS5 or HTTP), then enter your Host (for example, 127.0.0.1 or your proxy hostname) and Port (such as 1080 or 8080).
  4. If your proxy requires credentials, enter your Username and Password (toggle Show password to verify), then click the green Save settings button in the top-right corner.

2. Smart Network Change Protection & Metered Hotspot Speed Cap

Long multi-gigabyte downloads often fail in standard browsers when a Wi-Fi router blips or a VPN reconnects. Inside the same Proxy & Rules tab, NGS Download Manager includes an intelligent Network change protection engine:

  • Safely pause resumable downloads when the network disconnects: NGS continuously monitors your active IPv4 network adapter signature (ignoring harmless Windows IPv6 privacy rotations). The moment your Wi-Fi or VPN drops, all active ranges are flushed to disk and paused cleanly.
  • Automatically resume network-paused downloads when connection returns: As soon as your internet reconnects, NGS resumes every paused byte-range automatically with zero data loss.
  • Limit speed on metered/mobile networks: Enable this checkbox and set a Metered speed limit (e.g., 5 MB/s) so NGS never exhausts your mobile 4G/5G hotspot data plan.

3. Creating Custom Per-Website Download Rules

Want all downloads from github.com to go to D:/Dev_Releases with 32 streams, while limiting a strict corporate server to 8 streams? Use the Website download rules table at the bottom of the Proxy & Rules page:

  • Click + Add rule (or double-click any existing domain row to edit).
  • Website (Host): Enter the domain name (such as drive.google.com, github.com, or youtube.com).
  • Save folder & Temp parts: Keep temporary segment chunks on a fast NVMe SSD (C:/NGS_Temp) while writing the finished file to a high-capacity drive (D:/Cloud_Backups).
  • Connections, Naming & Login Policy: Set a custom stream cap (1–32), file naming template ({name}.{ext}), and choose Browser login so NGS automatically inherits your authenticated browser session cookies.
