Manually unzipping compressed folders after every download wastes time—especially when dealing with large software packages, multi-part .rar volumes, or password-protected .7z archives. NGS Download Manager features a built-in Smart Auto-Extractor that verifies archive structure and unpacks your files automatically the moment a download completes.
1. Enabling Auto-Extract Archives in NGS Settings
To turn on automatic decompression in NGS Download Manager:
- Click Settings in the left WORKSPACE sidebar of NGS Download Manager.
- Scroll to the Integrity, archive, and recovery card at the bottom of the page.
- Check "Auto-extract archives after download" and choose your preferred Extracted-file conflict mode (
Replace,Skip, orRename). - Click the green Save settings button.
2. How Pre-Extraction Validation & Multi-Volume Unpacking Work
Before launching the decompressor, NGS Download Manager runs an automated integrity check on the archive's central directory structure:
- ZIP & ZIP64 End-of-Central-Directory Check: NGS inspects the tail bytes of every
.zipfile for the official0x504b0506signature and verifies that all multi-disk parts are present. - Automatic 7-Zip & WinRAR Engine Discovery: NGS automatically locates its bundled
7zG.exe/7z.exeruntime or your system's installedWinRAR/UnRAR.exebinary to handle.zip,.rar,.7z,.tar, and.gzarchives at maximum multi-core speed. - Zero Source Deletion: Unlike risky scripts that delete your downloaded archive, NGS unpacks contents into a dedicated subfolder and preserves your original archive safely.
3. Unlocking Password-Protected Archives & Conflict Modes
If a downloaded .7z, .rar, or .zip archive is encrypted with a password, NGS Download Manager detects the encryption flag immediately and opens the clean Password Prompt Dialog:
- Enter your archive password (click Show password to double-check characters) and check Remember password for this session if you are extracting multiple archives with the same key.
- Control how existing files are handled using the three conflict policies: Replace (
-aoa), Skip (-aos), or Rename Automatically (-aou).
4. Overnight Queue Scheduler & SOCKS5 Proxy Automation
Combine automatic archive extraction with NGS Download Manager's Advanced Night Scheduler and Per-Website Proxy Rules for a 100% hands-free workflow:
